The DXARTS SoftLab is a studio and an online platform whose mission is to examine the role of workmanship in artistic research, to redefine the use of crafting in the post-digital era, and to explore the body as an interface of control and resistance. It is part of the Department of Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS) at the University of Washington in Seattle.

On Friday, 6 May at 2:30pm PDT Jess Rowland joined the DXARTS 490A E-textiles and Wearables for Art and Design for an artist talk about her research on flexible embedded circuitry for sound composition.

A few words about Jess:

Jess Rowland is a sound artist, musician, and composer, and a 2018-20 Princeton Arts Fellow. Much of her work explores the relationship between technologies and popular culture, continually aiming to reconcile the world of art and the world of science. At The Center for New Music and Audio Technology, she developed techniques for embedded sound and flexible speaker arrays. Her research includes music perception, auditory neurosciences, and music technologies. In addition to an active art practice, she teaches Sound Art at The School of Visual Arts in New York and continues to present her work internationally.
