The DXARTS SoftLab is a studio and an online platform whose mission is to examine the role of workmanship in artistic research, to redefine the use of crafting in the post-digital era, and to explore the body as an interface of control and resistance. It is part of the Department of Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS) at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Listening Space was selected to form part of the art exhibition of the 26th International Symposium of Electronic Art which took part in Montreal. Although initially the idea was to have the work presented as an installation, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the halting of international travel, it formed part of the symposium’s online exhibition, and the organizing team put together a mini documentary about the work:

Audrey picking up and decoding a NOAA satellite in real-time using a wearable V-dipole antenna.

For this last iteration of the performance she created a full-body jumpsuit which allowed her to wear the antenna embedded as an apron attached on the rest of the garment. Will post more pics of this new wearable at another post soon!
