Structural Materiality in Textiles and Electromagnetics
Overview
This symposium explores textile technologies and construction methods to design, fabricate and analyse three-dimensional materiality in electronic textiles and electromagnetic engineering. The focus is on flexible structures achieved by folding, investigating digital and manual prototyping techniques using textiles and flexible materials. The overall aim is to develop concepts for new smart textiles for electromagnetic applications, and contextualising them within speculative futures for clothing and technical textile applications.
We believe that folding and structural materiality is too much of an interdisciplinary topic, to be explored from just one viewpoint. We therefore aim to bring together engineers, scientists, designers and artists from all stages of their career pathway who study folding mechanisms in their respective disciplines.
Planned originally in 2020 as a single event, we are now hosting a series of talks and workshops.
